Just before the WWDC, Walmart announced that they will be offering the iPhone 4 for $147- a $52 difference from Apple’s $199 price tag! Walmart is offering this deal for both the black and white versions of the iPhone 4. Of course, you have to sign up for a 2-year contract with either AT&T or Verizon in order to get this price for an iPhone 4.

This deal is available in “select stores” until June 30, according to Walmart.

WWDC App

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Iphone News on Friday Jun 3, 2011

If you’re planning on attending the WWDC, you should download a free app that Apple has just released that tells you the schedule and events of WWDC 2011. According to a MacWorld article, the app “contains a full schedule and the location of all sessions, labs, and official after-hours excitement; you can create your own customized schedule by favoriting the events you wish to attend, and even book time in advance to speak with an Apple engineer at one of the User Interface, App Review, iTunes Connect, Program Support, or Developer Publication labs.” You can download it and use it on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, but unfortunately, if you’re not going to be at the conference, the WWDC app isn’t available for download. If you’ll be there, though, be sure to check this app out!

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, iPhone 5, Iphone News on Tuesday May 31, 2011

This year’s Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will be held next Monday, June 6th. Apple is expected to launch some new products this year. One product is called iCloud- but no one knows much about it yet. It seems that iCloud may be some type of expansion of Apple’s MobileMe product.

Two more products that are expected to launch are iOS5,  the next generation of Apple’s mobile software, and also Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, the eighth version of Mac’s operating system.

Here’s hoping Apple goes ahead and releases the iPhone 5!

Wireless Updates on iPhone 5

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, iPhone 5, Iphone News on Sunday May 22, 2011

The rumors surrounding the iPhone 5 are still coming. The most recent one I’ve heard is that the iPhone 5 will have wireless updates. Instead of having to connect your iPhone to your computer with the dock connector cable to sync or update it, you will be able to connect with your computer wirelessly. According to rumors, Apple has already developed a plan that allows them to achieve updates by using a wireless network, so wireless updates are something that are definitely a possibility on the upcoming iPhone.

iPhone 5 Coming in the Fall?

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, iPhone 5, Iphone News on Thursday May 19, 2011

Even though all the other iPhones have been released in June, the iPhone 5 may be different. Due to the iPhone 4 going onto the Verizon network, the iPhone 5 may be delayed until around September. Also, the recent earthquake in Japan is said to have an impact on the production of the Apple products, which could be another reason for the delay.

According to the MacRumors website, “Apple has informed us that they do not plan to release the iPhone in the June to July time frame, though there will be a newer version in the future. Unfortunately, we have not been given a release time for the new phone. We will release this information on our web site when it is available to us.”

Some think the iPhone 5 will be produced for a release during the holidays of 2011 or early 2012. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

iPhone 5 Design Different from Other iPhones

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, iPhone 5, Iphone News on Thursday May 19, 2011

There are rumors all over the internet about the iPhone 5. One of the most consistent ones is that there is going to be a design change to the iPhone 5. It is supposedly different from all the previous generations of iPhones. The picture to the left is what the iPhone 5 may look like.

The iPhone 5 will be thinner than other iPhones,  but will have a larger screen and a larger home button. The screen is said to be extended out to the edges and will be a little less than 4 inches, which would allow Apple to still use the Retina Display on the iPhone 5. The home button is also going to be larger- it will reach all the way out to the edges of the phone, instead of just being a small circle like on the previous iPhones. A bigger home button will allow use of new features that are said to be on the iPhone 5.

Cable-free touch charging and an 8-megapixel camera could also be featured on the iPhone 5.

Dano Pirate & The Numbers App

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Applications, Iphone News on Wednesday May 18, 2011

A new iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad app was released on Tuesday called Dano Pirate & The Numbers. It’s an educational app and it helps children learn many math- and writing-related things.

The app helps children:
- Write by having them trace the number 1-9
- Read by having them choose what number they hear
- Understand sequences by filling in missing numbers
- Understand quantity by matching objects with the
..corresponding written number

There are 20 games in the app that help the children with each of these things. An article on sfgate.com says “In one of the mini-games, children must identify and tap on a number to help Dano through a maze to reach Julia the Princess. In another, players match the quantity of a set of objects by tapping the correct number. In another, the player must guide Dano across a pond by tapping on numbered islands in the correct sequence. As the game advances, players are asked to help Dano by counting backward.”

The app is available at the App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch for $1.99 and on the iPad and iPad2 for $2.99.

Apple has recently been awarded several world records for both the iPhone 4 and the App Store. Here’s what was awarded by The Guiness Book of World Records 2011 Gamers Edition. The fastest selling portable gaming system is the iPhone 4. According to Guiness, the first-day sales of the iPhone 4 was an estimated 1.5 million units. In comparison, the PSP sold only 200,000 units and the Nintendo DS only sold 600,000 units the first day they were available.

The most popular application marketplace, the largest downloadable video game store, and largest launch line-up of any gaming system is the Apple App Store. The App Store had over 6.5 billion downloads and nearly 260,000 apps available for download- which makes it the most popular downloadable app store in the world. Out of all these apps, nearly 40,000 of them were games, making the App Store the largest video game download store in the world. The last award the app store received, largest launch line-up of any gaming system, was determined when the App Store launched. It had over 500 apps when it launched, and 145 of those were games- which won the App Store the award.
