As many of you already know, the 9th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks is tomorrow. To give people first-hand information about the attacks, the NationalSeptember 11 Memorial & Museum has created an iPhone app named Explore 9/11. As you can see on the picture, the app has three different components- Tour, Explore, and Timeline.
Tour
There is a walking tour of the area around the World Trade Center that makes seven stops. It begins at the Memorial Preview Site in Lower Manhattan. It even includes audio and photo narration. During the tour you will hear what happened on that awful day as told by the first responders, rescue workers, and volunteers, as well as those who lived and worked in Lower Manhattan.
Explore
With the explore feature on this app, you can view images that are related to the events of 9/11. All of the photos were contributed to the museum by survivors and witnesses through the 911history.org website.
Timeline
With this feature, you can view an interactive timeline of the day’s events and aftermath.
This app is free, so I suggest you download it today!
There is an app from Tribe Mediterranean Foods that allows you to figure out where you can buy all natural foods. According to Tribe, their new iPhone app allows users to find natural food stores based on where they’re located.
This app doesn’t just help you find stores with hummus and tofu, it also “offers consumers a list of delicious and healthy recipes for any occasion, courtesy of Tribe’s website,” according to the company.
Carlos Canals, president of Tribe Mediterranean Foods, said, “[a]t Tribe, we understand how busy consumers are, yet we also know their desire for healthy and delicious all natural foods. Our new iPhone app provides increased mobility, convenience, and recommendations to satisfy the need for simple all natural nutrition on-the-go.”
The app is available for free at the iTunes app store, so now you can stay all natural, no matter where you are.
Everyone has wondered if they remembered to lock their car. Well now, Mercedes Benz and Hughes Telemetics Inc. (HTI) can reassure you that you have with their newest mbrace iPhone application. HTI and Mercedes Benz released this app in November, but it has been recently updated. HTI president Erik Goldman stated that they “extended to the iPhone app the ability to remotely lock and unlock your car from anywhere in the world.”
In the original app that was released in November, all the services of the updated application were available- but you had to be in the car. Now these things can be done from anywhere in the world. Not only can the new mbrace app lock and unlock your car remotely, it also uses embedded GPS technology to find nearby points of interest. The app can also provide roadside assistance if the user’s car breaks down.
Goldman also stated, “[i]f the car battery dies, you can’t do anything with a traditional telematics system. Now you have a phone app that will automatically call Mercedes. Even if you don’t know where you are, with the GPS in the phone, it will know where you are.”
Even though the telematics system and app is only available in Mercedes cars, other cars may soon be getting the system and app, too. Goldman said HTI is working with some other companies to make a system and application that are similar to the telematics system and the mbrace app.
The basic mbrace package, which comes with the iPhone app, costs $280.
Terminology, a dictionary app, has had a lot of success as an iPad app, ranking 25th on the Top 100 Apps list, and once hitting the number one on the iPad Reference charts. The company has recently released the same app that is for the iPhone, called Terminology Ph.
Terminology is a dictionary, thesaurus, and research tool for those of you who need definitions, synonyms, and even the history of the words. It uses a book-like display for the information and has an in-app web browser with links that allow you to find more information about the words on Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and other sites. You can even “star” your favorite words for quick access and see a history of terms you’ve browsed.
Terminology’s dictionary is viewable even if you don’t have an internet connection. Since the app got such great responses on the iPad, Terminology Ph could easily be a great iPhone reference app for students, teachers, writers, or anyone else that wants to know more about the English language.
Terminology Ph is available now for $1 and runs on iOS 3.1 or later.
A new iPhone app has been created by best-selling cookbook author and TV personality Rachael Ray. It’s called “Tasty Bytes” and it has over 200 recipes and cooking tips along with a shopping tool that lets you get your shopping done faster.
The app shows you which ingredients you need for certain recipes and also has a feature where you can buy whatever ingredients, meal types, or cooking styles you are in the mood for and it will show you a recipe that has those things in it.
Ray stated, “When I head to the grocery store, I know what meals I want to make for the week and I buy ingredients based on those recipes. Sometimes I bring my own cookbook to the market and feel silly carrying a book around with my head on it. I figured why not create a recipe database that was portable and mobile, so I could provide busy cooks, including myself, with a simple way to search through tons of recipes and be able to shop for ingredients in the fastest way possible.”
Your food can be “yum-o” to go for just $1.99.
AT&T has just announced a new application, called U-verse, that is only available for AT&T’s subscribers and offers the ability to download and watch TV shows on their iPhone.
According to David Christopher, chief marketing officer of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, “We’re making it possible for you to watch TV shows on your iPhone at no extra charge. It’s just one more valuable and innovative feature available on U-verse TV. Our U-verse multi-screen promise is now a reality for millions of U-verse TV customers, with content available on U-verse TV, U-verse Online, and today, U-verse Mobile.”
The U-verse application is a free download from the AppStore, but U-verse TV customers will have to subscribe to the U300 package or higher to be able to download and watch content on their iPhones. AT&T is offering new U-verse TV customers and iPhone owners that order the U300 or higher packages an iTunes gift card for $75.
After users subscribe to one of the two available packages, they will be able to browse a library of downloadable shows, and select which series or which specific episode they want to download. The U-verse Mobile App includes TV shows from several popular networks. The carrier promised that it will continue to add more content over time.
It is now possible to lock individual applications on your iPhone with a new app called Locktopus. The Locktopus app provides protection against an iPhone app being opened without a password. This app is available in Cydia for only $2.
I know I’ve been in a situation before when a friend has asked to see my phone and then gone through my text messages, email, or pictures. If I would have had this application on my phone, I wouldn’t have had to worry about them going through my things. This also would be a great app to have in case you lose your iPhone. If this application was on a lost iPhone, there wouldn’t be any personal information like email, SMS, contacts, call history, or browser history on your iPhone to worry about.
