The iPhone 5 is Here!

Posted by iPHi under Uncategorized on Tuesday Oct 2, 2012

As most of you probably know, the most recent buzz lately is the iPhone that Apple has just released. The iPhone 5 is Apple’s newest creation and it boasts a larger screen and is thinner than the previous iPhone models. There are many other new things on the iPhone:

-A6 Chip: The newest A6 chips is smaller, but twice as fast as the A5 chip in the iPhone 4S.

-8MP iSight Camera: The camera on the iPhone 5 has the same resolution as the one on the iPhone 4S, but now has a “Panorama” option that allows you to take a panorama shot with your phone.

-Earbuds: Instead of keeping the same earbuds that have been used previously, Apple has redesigned the earbuds that come with the iPhone 5. They are no longer round, but “ear-shaped,” as Apple says. They fit into the ear better to provide better sound quality.

-Video: The iPhone 5 has the ability to take a photo while recording in 1080p HD video.

-Passbook: Passbook is a new built-in app that is preloaded on the phone when you buy it. With passbook, you can keep “all your gift cards, coupons, passes, and tickets organized and at the ready,” according to Apple.

-Phone Calls: You can ignore, screen, or answer phone calls. According to the Apple website, “[w]ith iPhone, you can decline an incoming call by automatically replying with a text message. Set a time- or location-based callback reminder. Or turn on Do Not Disturb. It sends calls straight to voicemail. Unless they’re from someone you’ve specified as important — like your wife, boss, or best friend.”

-FaceTime: With the iPhone 5, FaceTime is no longer limited to only when you have a WiFi connection. Now it’s available to use anytime- with WiFi or your cellular connection.

Is this an iPhone 5 Cable?

Posted by iPHi under Uncategorized on Friday Aug 24, 2012

There have been many rumors swirling around the iPhone 5 lately, most of which are pertaining to the screen size or release date. Another consistent rumor is that the new iPhone 5 will have a smaller port in the bottom of the phone to plug the charging cable into. The cable in this picture seems to be an Apple product, and if it is, this is proof that the new iPhone will have a “mini dock” charging port. It is very clear that the end of this charging cable is much smaller than what has been used with the previous versions of the iPhone. I guess we’ll see soon enough if this rumor is true or not!

Pictures of Possible iPhone 5

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, iPhone 5, Iphone News on Monday Jun 4, 2012

Could this be a leaked picture of the iPhone 5? Many different websites and blogs claim that it is since the rumor has been that the newest iPhone is going to have a bigger, 4″+ screen. I think this could be a definite possibility because Apple, Inc. hasn’t changed the screen size of their iPhones since they were first produced in 2007.

Apple May Offer Free iPhone 3GS

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Iphone News on Wednesday Jul 6, 2011

According to a new analyst report, Apple may give away the iPhone 3GS to customers who purchase a new two-year service contract. Mike Abramsky with RBC Capital Markets wrote in a research note that this move is expected from Apple because of consumers who are seeking low-budget choices for cell phones. Abramsky predicted the move will also increase the iPhone’s market share against the Android-based smartphones. Even though the iPhone is one of the most popular phones today, Google’s Android OS has become more popular recently due to the use of the system on smartphones such as Motorola, Samsung, and HTC.

Here’s hoping Apple actually offers a free iPhone!

Wireless Charging for the iPhone 5

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, iPhone 5, Iphone News on Wednesday Jun 15, 2011

I’ve heard lots of iPhone 5 rumors, but wireless charging is definitely a new one. A new Apple patent shows that wireless charging may be something that is a possibility for the iPhone 5.

When I say “wireless charging,” I don’t mean the wireless charging devices that are on the market today, I mean real, wireless charging. Apple’s patent shows that charging technology could be built into computers, allowing charging for any devices that are within a certain radius of the computer. In the patent, Apple talks about near field magnetic resonance (NFMR) output technology and using it to charge devices that are within a one meter range of the computer.

Apple also included in the patent a solution for those who have older computers, but still want to use this technology. They are planning on building special dongles that will plug into a USB port, and voilà, you have NFMR technology to charge your wireless devices.

Two iPhone 4s Will Take a Trip to Space

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Iphone News on Tuesday Jun 14, 2011

There will be two iPhone 4s aboard the space shuttle orbiter Atlantis when it lifts off from the Kennedy Space Center in July. The astronauts will be using the iPhone 4s as ways to conduct a few experiments. Odyssey Space Research created an app, called SpaceLab for iOS, specifically for this mission. The following experiments will be performed:

Sensor Calibration: This will help the astronauts calibrate the iPhone 4′s camera, accelerometer, and gyroscope. It does this by taking pictures of a QR code. By doing this, astronauts can take the information they obtain and use it for an autocalibration function for future flights.

Limb Tracker: With this experiment, the astronauts will use the camera on the iPhone 4 to take pictures of the curvature of the Earth. With these pictures, they can then calculate how far above the Earth’s surface they are.

State Acquisition: Astronauts can use this to figure out just where they are in space by taking pictures of the Earth and comparing those pictures to coastline models from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Lifecycle Flight Instrumentation: This last experiment will help determine how well the iPhone will function after the space flight by measuring the amount of radiation exposure.

We’ll find out how all of these experiments work soon- the launch date for Atlantis is July 8th.

iPhone 4S or iPhone 5?

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, iPhone 5, Iphone News on Wednesday Jun 1, 2011

Here’s another rumor surrounding the newest model of Apple’s iPhone. According to a report by Macotakara, Apple will release the iPhone 4S in the fall of 2011, and they will also release the iPhone 5 in the spring of 2012. The report claims that this fall we will see an iPhone similar to the iPhone 4, but it will have some new updates, like the step up from the iPhone 3G to 3GS.

What do you think? Will Apple release the iPhone 4S this fall or will it be the iPhone 5?
