For just $1.99, you can have one of the greatest tools to help you quit smoking! A new iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad application is available that can aid you in this difficult process. The app, Quit Forever, was created by the University of Tennessee Health Science Center based on other stop-smoking programs that the developers know are successful.

When you download the app, it first asks you if you’d like to quit smoking cold turkey or if you would like to quit gradually. It then asks what day you want to quit smoking. After that, depending on how you’re quitting, the app will make you a schedule of how many cigarettes you can smoke per day (if any) and gives you a list of things you need prepare yourself for, like tension and cravings. The app also helps smokers identify triggers and provides information on medications that will help you quit, and it also provides the numbers of free smoking hotlines.

You can look at the app online here.

Leaked Images of a White iPhone 4G

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Iphone News on Friday May 28, 2010

All over the internet and forums, you see talk and pictures of the new iPhone 4G.  Now, the newest pictures show the iPhone 4G in white.  The iPhone 3G and 3GS were both available in white, so having the iPhone 4G available in white seems like a good possibility.

There’s, of course, no way to confirm if these rumors are true yet.  What do you think? Real or fake?

iPhone for Verizon Not Likely in 2010

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Iphone News on Friday May 28, 2010

The iPhone won’t be on the Verizon network, not this year at least.

This still isn’t official, but analysts have said that it’s unlikely the Verizon iPhone will be released anytime soon because Apple has extended AT&T’s contract for six more months, thanks to the data plan AT&T offers for iPad users.  With this new plan, AT&T gives a 50% discount to their normal data plans for iPad customers. Besides this, iPad users don’t need to sign a contract to use this new data plan.

Apple is still expected to release the iPhone 4G in June during its Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.  The extension of AT&T’s contract with Apple shows that the phone will only be available on AT&T.

$97 iPhone 3GS

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Iphone News on Tuesday May 25, 2010

That’s right. An iPhone 3GS for only $97.

Instead of the $199 list price, Wal-Mart has cut the price of the 16GB iPhone 3GS over 50% down to $97.  This price cut may be to clear the inventory for the iPhone 4G.  As of right now, Wal-Mart is the only company to bring the price down.  But, it is expected that other companies will make the price cut sometime in the near future.

The price cut is raising suspicion about the release of the new iPhone 4G because electronic manufacturers will sometimes cut the prices of older models before coming out with the new model.

New iPhone in June?

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Iphone News on Monday May 24, 2010

Apple Inc CEO Steve Jobs is going to be delivering the keynote address at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June.  Jobs missed last year’s conference because of health reasons, but he is healthy and ready to give his speech this year.  In the past, Apple has used this conference to unveil new products , which is leading some to believe that Jobs will use the conference this year to reveal the new iPhone 4G to the 5000 developers planning to attend.

iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 4

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Iphone News on Sunday May 23, 2010

The iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 4 has yet to come out, but as with the iPhone 4G, the iPhone OS 4.0 release is very anticipated.  There are many rumors of new features that will be on these two phones.   Three of these predicted features for the iPhone OS 4.0 are: tethering, a changeable home screen, and more options for messaging.

Data tethering should be appearing on the new iPhone.  Data tethering is available on iPhones overseas, and comes with a $15 per month charge for 3GB of data, on top of your $30 per month unlimited data plan.

The home screen on iPhones has those apps that you just can’t delete. The clock, weather, and stocks will all be grouped into one button: Utilities.  This allows more customizing to be possible and for other apps to take the place of those three.  It’s also rumored that the black background on the home screen will be able to be changed to an available wallpaper already on the phone, making the home screen a little less bland.

The last “new feature” is the different options for messaging.  You can now show a preview of a SMS or MMS message, repeat alert, toggle MMS and group messaging, toggle subject field viewer, and limit character count.  If all of the rumors are true, the iPhone OS 4.0 will be a great phone to have.

Rumor Has It…

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Iphone News on Wednesday May 19, 2010

The new iPhone 4G may have more new features than expected.  Some are saying that the 4G phone wil have an  OLED screen, a removable battery, and a front-facing camera to make video calls with.

The OLED screen was rumored to be used for the iPhone 3Gs, but it didn’t happen.  Now, other phones have the OLED screen, so Apple may just change things up a bit so they don’t get behind.  The removable battery would make the iPhone look much different because of its now smooth and sleek design.  If the removable battery were to exist on the newest iPhone, though, it would make things much easier by having the option to just replace a battery once it gets run down.  A few new ideas of what to do with a removable battery have been revealed around the internet.  The front-facing camera would be great to make video calls.  But, if video calling isn’t available, a front-facing camera would still be very convenient.  Perhaps the best rumor going around would be that the iPhone 4G could possibly have a dual-core processer so more multi-tasking will be possible!

Big Plans for iPhone 4G

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Iphone News, Uncategorized on Tuesday May 18, 2010

Foxconn, the manufacturer of Apple’s next-generation iPhones, plans to build and ship 24 million iPhones before the end of this year.  By contrast, Apple claims to have sold 33 million iPhones total from the phone’s launch in 2007 until the end of 2009.

The fourth-generation iPhone will have a higher-quality touchscreen like the one currently used for HTC’s Hero phone. The new display is said to have more pixels, to allow a wider viewing angle, and to be more readable in sunlight.

The end game of those features: Making the iPhone an acceptable e-reader compared to Amazon’s Kindle, and competing with Android phones that have higher screen resolution than the current iPhone 3G S model.

How will Apple plan to sell so many phones? The most obvious scenario would be to let multiple U.S. carriers, not just AT&T, sell the phones after AT&T’s exclusive contract with Apple expires this year. Lower prices are another possibility, but in the USA carriers are already spending a lot to subsidize phones. Ideally, the new iPhone will be so hot we’ll gladly blow $200 on one.

4G iPhone…enough said.

Posted by Sarah under Apple Related on Monday Jan 18, 2010

Rumors are starting to FLY about the iPhone 4G.  From what I have read I’m expecting the 4th generation (not to be confused with 4G network) to have some really cool features/upgrades like: better graphics, a dual-core processor, enhanced camera, removable battery, video chat and an OLED screen!

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m seriously excited about the OLED screen.

For those of you who don’t know what an OLED screen is, (I didn’t know until about 15 minutes ago), here is Wikipedia definition:

An organic light emitting diode (OLED), also light emitting polymer (LEP) and organic electro luminescence (OEL), is a light-emitting diode (LED) whose emissive electroluminescent layer is composed of a film of organic compounds. The layer usually contains a polymer substance that allows suitable organic compounds to be deposited. They are deposited in rows and columns onto a flat carrier by a simple “printing” process. The resulting matrix of pixels can emit light of different colors.

Such systems can be used in television screens, computer monitors, small, portable system screens such as cell phones and PDAs, watches, advertising, information and indication. OLEDs can also be used in light sources for general space illumination, and large-area light-emitting elements. OLEDs typically emit less light per area than inorganic solid-state based LEDs which are usually designed for use as point-light sources.

In the context of displays, OLEDs have a significant advantage over traditional liquid crystal displays (LCDs). OLEDs do not require a backlight to function. Thus, they can display deep black levels, draw far less power, and can be much thinner and lighter than an LCD panel. OLED displays also naturally achieve much higher contrast ratio than LCD screens using cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlights.

As much as I KNOW I will want this new toy, I’m a little apprehensive as to what the price tag will read.
