RoadAhead for iPhone

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Applications, AT&T on Wednesday May 11, 2011

A brand new app just hit the app store earlier today. It’s called RoadAhead and it can tell you what restaurants, gas stations (and their prices!), and other attractions are coming up at exits when you’re driving on the interstate. The app uses the GPS to determine what interstate you’re on and what exits are coming up. When you select one of the options on the list, the app will show you the address and a zoomed-in map of the option you select so you can find where you want to go easily. It’s available for free for your iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad so go to the app store and download it now!

JAJAH Now Available for iPhone

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Applications, Iphone News on Wednesday Apr 20, 2011

After a recent release of JAJAH on Andriod devices, a new app was released for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. With this new app, you can make phone calls to anyone, anywhere in the world for a very low price. The newest addition to JAJAH, however, is the ability to call your facebook friends using the JAJAH app.

JAJAH CEO, Trevor Healy, stated “Within hours of launching Facebook Calls for Android we saw thousands of calls, so we are very excited to bring this to iPhone owners. Calling has finally arrived in Facebook.”

Making a call to a Facebook friend is very simple. There are four easy steps to do this:
1- Download the JAJAH app from the iTunes store
2- Login to Facebook
3- Select a friend from your “online friends” list
4- Wait for your friend to accept the phone call- they will receive a message in chat telling them you’re calling. Once they accept the call, it connects, and you can talk to them.

The app uses the internet to connect the call, but once it’s connected, it’s just a regular call, which means that every call will have great quality. If you want to know more about JAJAH, check out their website here!

March Madness on Your iPhone

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Applications, Iphone News, Uncategorized on Wednesday Mar 9, 2011

CBS Sports just announced that Apple has a new app available called NCAA March Madness On Demand. Last year during the tournament, Apple had an app available that allowed users to watch March Madness live, but it cost $9.99. So this year, you can check out whatever March Madness basketball game you want- all for free.

The app is available for the iPhone and iPod Touch, but there is also an app made specifically for the iPad.

The reason they made this app free this year is to target younger viewers.  According to Michael Adamson, vice president of Time Warner, Inc said ,“We want people using the product with these companion views while they’re watching it on TV. If that’s the case, that’s a success in our minds, because that’s a good consumer experience and a larger aggregate audience as a result.”

You can download the app in the app store today. It’s all completely free- enjoy March Madness!

The Crime Stoppers programs just released an app into the app store. It’s is called TipSubmit and it allows people to use their iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to send in anonymous tips to help solve and prevent crime in their neighborhoods.

TipSubmit offers features that aren’t available with any existing tip submission process. It has the ability to submit images and messages with unlimited length. It also has a fully anonymous two-way dialogue and even a virtual chat mode. Of course, this new app doesn’t mean tipsters can’t call Crime Stoppers or get online to report tips.

TipSubmit is available on the app store for free!

Mobile MIM

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Applications, Tablets on Thursday Feb 17, 2011

Apple has just realeased a new app into the app store. It’s called Mobile MIM and used primarily for medical imaging. The app is for the physicians who aren’t able to be in the office but have an important and urgent patient who needs a test or scan of some kind. With the Mobile MIM app, the images can be sent to the physician’s iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch and he/she can view them from wherever he/she is. This app allows the physician to make a diagnosis and give the patient the medications they need, even if he/she can’t be in the office.

This app was one of the first in July 2008 when the app store first began, but the FDA ordered that it be removed. The FDA has just recently cleared this app, but says it should never be used for x-rays or mammograms because the screens of the iDevices do not have high enough resolution. They do, however, have enough resolution to view images like CT scans, MRIs, and nuclear imaging scans.

The app is available for free now at the app store. But even though the app is free, it costs to send or receive an image and to purchase software that serves images to the devices from within the physician’s institution.

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Applications, Iphone News on Wednesday Feb 9, 2011

A new app has just been released for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad. It’s called IntoNow and it can identify 2.6 million broadcast airings. It’s like the Shazam app- the one that ”listens” and tells you what song it hears. All you have to do is open the app, press start, and within just a few seconds, you know exactly what you’re watching.

Open IntoNow app and select the TV icon and it listens to whatever TV show you’re watching and can identify the name of the show, what episode it is, and whether the episode is live or if it’s a rerun.

When using this app, you can choose to share what you’ve found out on Facebook or Twitter. You can also see what all your friends are watching, too. The app is available from the app store for free. Check it out now!

If you have ever wanted to watch live TV on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch, you will be able to soon from just about anywhere- even if you’re in a moving vehicle. The company that is making this all possible is called Valups. As you can see from the picture, the Tivizen plugs directly into the device and then can provide up to 2.5 hours of live TV before the battery has to be recharged. Hopefully the company will make some changes to the Tivizen before its release in June and the battery life will be longer.

Valups is also working on a Wi-Fi version of Tivizen and that is also going to be released later this year.

Withings Blood Pressure Monitor

Posted by iPHi under Apple Related, Iphone News on Tuesday Jan 11, 2011

Here is another great invention from Withings. It’s a blood pressure monitor that you just strap onto your arm, plug the cuff into the charge/sync port on your device, touch the start button on the screen, and your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad will do the rest of the work for you.  The device connects with the Withings API and that allows it to upload your  BP readings to the Microsoft HealthVault or Google Health so you can view your BP readings wherever you are.

This device is also not available yet, but is due to be on sale sometime later this month. It will sell for around $129. Check it out on the Withings website here!
