There is a new iPhone app available for children with autism, children who are developmentally behind in their speech, people with traumatic brain injuries and people who are stroke victims.

This new iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad app is helping revolutionize speech therapy.  Local speech pathologists report they’ve seen the difference this new app can make in the lives of people who have trouble with communication.

WT’s Associate Professor of Special Education says, “That’s one of the defining characteristics of autism and other communication disabilities is communication problems. But the iPad, the iPhone the iPod all give them a way of communicating that can be personalized. It sets them free. It gives them a voice.”

The most basic version of this app costs seven or eight dollars, but the most complicated one runs around $200. This is a great deal compared to the price of the handheld computers that do the close to the same thing the app does.  Check out the video of how the iPhone app works here.
